 function
When radiation measurements are made, a beam of cesium-137 - or cobalt-60 - isotopes emits gamma rays. A special sensor mounted on the opposite side of the container receives radiation. The sensor's scintillator converts gamma rays into signals, the amount of which is measured and analyzed. Because the gamma rays are attenuated as they pass through the material, the sensor can calculate level, limiting level, density, or material flow from the intensity of the incoming rays.
