 Pressure-sensitive edge or edge sensors are used as signaling and starting devices on machinery or as safety devices where pinch points exist on automatic mechanical doors. Edge sensors in signal or start applications are usually driven by the operator's intentional hand or foot movements. Edge sensors are used in safety applications to stop or reverse automatic doors or moving machinery. These sensing edges provide a buffer to absorb the overstroke that occurs between the stop command and the end of the actual motion. The sensing edge system is composed of the edge itself and the edge controller which interfaces with the device control.
